Celebrating Linguistic Heritage

Celebrating Linguistic Heritage

International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on 21st February. Keeping this in mind, a special assembly was organised by the Bengali Department of Delhi Public School Asansol. The day, declared by UNESCO, promotes linguistic diversity and the preservation of the mother language across the world. The assembly began with a devotional prayer, followed by a melodious Bengali choir song highlighting the beauty and importance of the mother tongue. Students shared the historical significance of the day, paying tribute to the brave citizens and students of Bangladesh who sacrificed their lives in 1952 while protecting to make Bengali their official language. Students of Classes II and IV beautifully recited Bengali poems. A vibrant dance performance showcased Bengali culture and festivals, with performers gracefully draped in sarees. The main attraction was a humorous Bengali drama titled Harihar, which entertained the audience. Our honourable Principal, Ms. Vineeta Srivastava, encouraged students to respect and practise their mother language regularly. She emphasized that language shapes identity and strengthens cultural roots. She motivated students to feel proud of their linguistic heritage and to pass it on to future generations. A quiz on the theme of the day made the programme informative and engaging.
